Sporades Islands

Peristera is an uninhabited island part of the national marine park of Alonissos. It is the ideal anchoring point for someone that wants to relax under the sun avoiding the crowded beaches of Alonissos. The Greek name of the island means “dove”. Even if the island nowadays is completely uninhabited, the many caves and the two natural ports once made the island was a flourishing port used by Saracene pirates that were responsible for the sinking of many merchant ships passing between Alonissos and Peristera.

The island can only be reached from Alonissos with a brieth navigation from the ports of Steni Vala or Agios Dimitros. There is an agency located on Patitiri beach that organize detailed trips around the natural marine reservoir and islands giving you the chance to visit Peristera.

Why choose Peristeria?

Peristera is an island to visit during a daytrip. A place to reach if you are staying in Alonissos and looking for a daily adventure. Being part of the national marine park of Alonissos, Peristeri is part of this project that aims to protect and the animals and vegetation here.

Peristera and Alonissos are part of the B section of this reservoir. In this area you can’t use oxygen tanks for both fishing and diving. You also can’t take any sponges from the seabed and fishing isn’t possible from at least one mile and a half from the island’s coast.

You can fish in a traditional way (rod and line) or you can go diving without any tanks. The tourists that are staying in Steni Vala or Agios Dimitrios often also choose Peristera for spending a relaxing day on the beach while sunbathing. On this small island there are also the remains of an old castle. An ideal place for a nice day trip surrounded by the crystal clear waters of the Aegean sea.
